Dr. Leon Kavaler is a leading gastroenterologist and gastrointestinal endoscopists in New York. Known for his effective problem-solving, patient advocacy, and “can-do” approach, Dr. Kavaler has special expertise in colonoscopy and prevention of gastrointestinal cancers. He has more than 20 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases. To achieve clinical solutions, he works closely with a network of outstanding subspecialists, including oncologists, gynecologists, urologist and surgeons. He enjoys recognition by his peers as one of New York Super Doctors since 2009.
Dr. Kavaler performs a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. He receives referrals from throughout the tristate area of complex endoscopic procedures. Dr. Kavaler has a particular interest in patient safety during endoscopic procedures. His primary areas of expertise include peptic ulcer disease, acid reflux, inflammatory bowel diseases and colon cancer screening and surveillance.
Dr. Kavaler earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical Center and completed his internal medicine residency at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. During his residency, he earned selection as Chief Medical Resident. He remained at Mount Sinai during his fellowship in gastroenterology.
He is currently Clinical Instructor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he is a prized teacher of endoscopy and colonoscopy. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Medical Association. He is President of the Board of Managers of the Endoscopy Center of New York.
