Dr. James George enjoys an exceptional reputation locally and regionally for his outstanding treatment of patients suffering from Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. A go-to resource for patients with complex inflammatory bowel disease, he often resolves intractable problems and disease complications where other providers could not. On the recommendation of his peers, Dr. George has won Best Doctors and Super Doctors awards numerous times. He sees patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, including abdominal pain, acid reflux, and peptic ulcer disease.
Dr. George has published extensively on the management of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, investigating the role diet plays and the effectiveness and safety of drug treatments. In addition to his outstanding consultative skills, he is an experienced, expert endoscopist, with over 25 years performing complex endoscopic procedures. He has special expertise in colon polyp removal as a method for cancer prevention.
Dr. George graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from the State University of New York, Binghamton, and earned his medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he won Alpha Omega Honors Society based on excellent academic performance. He completed his internal medicine training at the University of California, San Francisco, and served his gastroenterology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He is currently a Clinical Instructor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. George is a prized teacher of medical students, mid-career gastroenterologists, and interested lay people. He is a recipient of the Mount Sinai Gastroenterology Division Fellowship Teaching Award.
